You blow me away

2013, video/performance, 6:27 min

In 2013 I went to Iceland, for an eight-day trek from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork. I departed from Reykjavik, where you can buy cans filled with ‘Icelandic air’ in tourist shops . The Icelandic landscapes are overwhelmingly incomprehensible and the idea that you could conserve and own something of that experience in a can felt ridiculous and poetic at the same time. You Blow Me Away is a tribute to the Icelandic landscape, which is so strong and overpowering that it can’t actually be anyone’s property. It is a single-attempt performance, documented in video.
